Mary Poppins parrot umbrella

Parrot Umbrella: That's gratitude for you. Didn't even say goodbye!

Mary Poppins: No, they didn't.
Parrot Umbrella: Look at them! You know, they think more of their father than they do of you!
Mary Poppins: That's as it should be.
Parrot Umbrella: Well? Don't you care?
Mary Poppins: Practically perfect people never permit sentiment to muddle their thinking.
Parrot Umbrella: Is that so? Well, I'll tell you one thing, Mary Poppins: you don't fool me a bit!
Mary Poppins: Oh, really?
Parrot Umbrella: Yes, really. I know exactly how you feel about these children, and if you think I'm going to keep my mouth shut any longer, I-... [she clamps his mouth shut]
Mary Poppins: That will be quite enough of that, thank you.

Jardin du Perroquet Side Walk Cafe

Designed by Emery Roth and completed in 1926, the building had a very large and very elegant lobby with a long, wide corridor with carved plaster ceiling and marble mosaic panels set into pilasters. The first floor contained a very large dining room that originally was designed in Pompeian style with a sunken garden. Over the years, this room was converted for catering and often was used for wedding parties. The 9th Street corner was converted for restaurant use and subsequently expanded into an enclosed sidewalk cafe.

Le petit coquin parrot poster

Leonetto Cappiello (1875–1942), considered to be the father of the modern poster, revolutionized advertising and turned it into a collectible art form. Self-taught, the Italian Cappiello was originally a caricaturist who became the most significant European artist of the early 20th century by masterfully linking products with strikingly colored, contemporary, memorable images. In 40 years he created 1,000 works, including innovative posters for beverages, ballet, literature, plays, travel and music halls. Cappiello led the Art Deco movement, and set standards which are still fundamental to today’s advertising.

Louis-Ferdinand Céline's parrot

Louis-Ferdinand Céline was the pen name of French writer and physician Louis-Ferdinand-Auguste Destouches (27 May 1894 – 1 July 1961). Céline was chosen after his grandmother's first name. He is considered one of the most influential writers of the twentieth century, developing a new style of writing that modernized both French and world literature. He remains, however, a controversial figure because of his anti-semitic pamphlets.

Céline died on 1 July 1961 of a ruptured aneurysm. His house burned down on the night of May 23, 1968, destroying manuscripts, furniture and mementoes, but leaving his parrot Toto alive in the adjacent aviary.

The Adventures of Tintin with Parrots

The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin) is a series of comic strips created by the Belgian artist Georges Rémi (1907–1983), who wrote under the pen name of Hergé. The series first appeared in French in Le Petit Vingtième, a children's supplement to the Belgian newspaper Le XXe Siècle on 10 January 1929.

Set during a largely realistic 20th century, the hero of the series is Tintin, a young Belgian reporter. He is aided in his adventures from the beginning by his faithful fox terrier dog Snowy (Milou in French). Later, popular additions to the cast included the brash, cynical and grumpy Captain Haddock, the highly intelligent but hearing-impaired Professor Calculus (Professeur Tournesol) and other supporting characters such as the incompetent detectives Thomson and Thompson (Dupont et Dupond). Hergé himself features in several of the comics as a background character, as do his assistants in some instances.
